MILS® LED Technology for Emergency Lighting
The MILS®-System has many applications, it might be used for static path marking, exit marking or emergency lighting all the way up to dynamic guidance systems or even decorative lighting.
What are the Alternatives?
In exit route marking you could select photoluminescent type tapes to mark your way.
MILS® outperforms photoluminescent tapes by three distinct factors:
1. The LEDs in the MILS® stripes are much brighter than the PL tapes, meaning better visibility, especially in smoke.
2. We require less power for our systems, we only use power for the lighting when the system is activated, and the power levels are very low. You might think that PL tapes use no power... but they actually need to be charged by light so they are ready when needed, and this means that you have to have your conventional lighting on all the time - which costs you money.
3. Our system can be dynamic, meaning the system can guide you to the safest exit and manage different emergencies which require different emergency plans.
What about other, cheaper LED stripes?
There are cheaper stripes out there, but they are not constructed in the same way - our manufacturing methods are patented:
1. Our stripe and connections are third party tested as IP68, anything less is more risky.
2. Our stripes are designed to be walked on, and tested by third party to prove this, but our many floor mounted installations have already proved its robustness.
3. Our stripes and panels are designed to strict fire requirements in the marine safety environment.
4. Our stripes are flexible and compact, typically only 2mm thick (the same as a 5 cent coin)
5. Our stripes are made in a clean environment by special lines (bonding lines, encapsulation line and testing lines) and are not hand assembled in workshops with tubes of resins or silicon.

Guiding people with signs...
Signage is the most common method to guide people, however the MILS® system has clear advantages:
1. Signs can often lead to a cluttered environment; you have all seen ceilings full of confusing signs. The MILS® stripes and panels provide are aesthetically pleasing and typically wall mounted.
2. Whenever a location is moved or a route changed you need to change the signs, with MILS® you just reprogram the routing information.
3. MILS® is dynamic - it can react to the environment, if there is a fire MILS can guide you to the safest exit, not just the nearest exit.
Conventional Lighting vs MILS® LED lighting
There are three main advantages of MILS® LED lighting over conventional lighting:
1. Power savings: whether we are talking of conventional light bulbs, sodium, fluorescent or even CFLs our LED stripes are using much less power to provide the same lighting levels.
2. Lifetime: typically our LEDs will last over 100,000 hours... compare that with typical values of our competition: Incandescent bulbs have a typical life of 1,000 hours and compact fluorescents about 8,000 hours. In practice this means no more annual throwing away and replacing of light bulbs, less maintenance and less light downtime.
3. Robustness: imagine walking on top of a CFL or incandescent bulb - but you can with the MILS® stripe. Also LEDs are not noticeably affected by turning them on and off, so flashing them is possible for long periods - the lifetime of all these other lights is affected adversely by turning them on an off.
