The MILS® system is a guiding system, based around LED stripes, signs and light panels and controlled by different MILS® control systems. MILS® has a range of different LED stripes which can be used for guiding, path marking or illumination.
The MILS® system was primarily designed for low location lighting on ships or egress lighting in buildings. Since its beginnings in 1995 the system has been developed further to include emergency lighting systems, especially for tunnels, exit door marking and guiding systems for normal situations.
What makes the MILS® system unique?
The system can be designed in two different way, either static - meaning all of the light are on or off - or dynamic - meaning the system indicates the preferred route by use of light sequences and symbols being on or off.
The MILS® system has been designed with safety in mind, and each component can be fully monitored and in case of damage or fault the event is notified to the controlling system. When designing a MILS® system we can use our 3D designing package to show you the system layout in 3D even before you install a single component and you can check routing in the virtual environment.
The system is based around our patented MILS®-stripes, signs and light panels. All of our components are designed with the highest quality in mind; we use only LEDs from the reputable companies and our components are fully water and dust proof - IP68. In most LED stripes the long potential lifetimes of LEDs are downgraded by heat, moisture and dust, the MILS® stripe is protected against all of these, and we are confident in passing on the long lifetimes from the LED supplier - typically 100,000 hours- to the customer.
We also invest a lot of time and money into exhaustive testing and approvals, and have approvals from all of the main marine approving authorities, to the strictest marine low location lighting standards.
Long lifetimes of the LEDs are supported by our extremely robust stripe construction, and we have third party testing proving a mechanical resistance up to 360kg per cm2, in fact many of our installations have been floor mounted with people continuously walking over them.
Of course, by selecting LED technology you are also buying an environmentally responsible system. Low power usage - for example 1.6km of our tunnel stripe in running mode uses the same power as a single 60W light bulb - and long lifetimes - no more throwing away and replacing conventional light bulbs each year - means the MILS® system is the green choice, and saves you money.
The MILS®-System is perfectly suited to all business sectors, such as marine & offshore, the aviation industry, buildings, tunnels, mines, manufacturing plants, as well as transportation, warehouses and shopping and sport complexes etc. Feel free to check out a sample of our references here.
